Active Hourly Rate vs Blended Hourly Rate

Beer Money opportunities often blur the line between active work and passive waiting.

The active hourly rate divides your net earnings only by the hours you actually spent doing something.

The blended hourly rate also includes passive or waiting time you choose to count.

That second number is useful for things like phone farming, long game timers, driving to specific locations, or any system where an opportunity occupies your time or hardware even when you are not actively tapping the screen.

What Is a Good Beer Money Hourly Rate?

Under $2/hour

Usually poor if substantial active effort is required.

It may still be reasonable if the activity is entertaining, almost completely passive, or builds something valuable that continues producing later.

$2–$5/hour

Common Beer Money territory.

Whether it is worthwhile depends heavily on convenience, enjoyment and whether the activity has persistent value.

$5–$15/hour

Now the opportunity becomes much more interesting, especially if it can be repeated reliably.

$15+/hour

Strong for ordinary Beer Money work.

At this point I would investigate whether the opportunity is scalable, limited by availability, or temporarily subsidized.

Hourly Rate Is Not Everything

Beer Money Universe does not judge an opportunity by hourly rate alone.

A $4/hour survey and a $4/hour property-building game may produce the same immediate hourly number while being fundamentally different opportunities.

One-Time Earnings

A survey paying $8 for two hours produces $4/hour.

Once the survey ends, the economic value of the work ends too.

Persistent Buildup

A game might also appear to produce only $4/hour during the accumulation stage.

But if that work creates assets that keep producing future income, the long-run return can be substantially better than the initial hourly rate suggests.

Use It for Real Experiments

This calculator is especially useful when comparing several opportunities using the same methodology.

Paid Games

Track how much money or productive value you gain from each hour of gameplay.

Surveys & GPT Sites

Compare the advertised payout with the actual time required.

Passive Apps

Separate active setup time from passive device or waiting time.

Location-Based Apps

Include travel or detour time if the earning method changes where you would otherwise go.

The Beer Money Universe Question

We are not interested merely because something pays.

We want to know whether the return is good enough, repeatable enough, scalable enough, passive enough, or persistent enough to deserve continued attention.

In other words:

Does it actually hunt?
